I wish it were as easy to overcome that dread as just telling myself "it's not true", but I've been dealing with it for like 3 years now, not to mention the confusion of honestly not knowing if maybe I've finally moved on from gamedev as a hobby, or if I'm just *still* burnt out

context: I had a dream last night that I was having a blast making a new adventure starring my favorite characters. But now I dread that the same thing will happen again, I'll tell myself "this won't sell" and immediately lose all interest and motivation

just going to keep telling myself this until my brain finally accepts that it's true

My one regret about Silksong is buying it on the Switch where you can't refund digital downloads IIRC. I loved Hollow Knight. I legitimately hate Silksong. It's a skill issue on my part, but I still hate it. Maybe I'm just getting old.

It's definitely inspirational, but... You guys know it's probably not going to go like that, right? Like, when you quit your job to chase a dream, success ISN'T the most common outcome. Like, most of us are not going to make something like Hollow Knight. You know that right?
If you're an indie developer, you should hang this screenshot on your wall and use it as inspiration to never give up

Awhile back a fellow RPGMaker dev shared wisdom about using your game to share what you want to say to the world That question has been on my mind for over 2 years now. I still don't know the answer.

I've been wanting to get back into drawing for a while and a few days ago I gave it a go. Ever since then, I've been agonizing over wheter to share this or not since I can see so many mistakes in it I don't know how to fix. Making faces and rendering are a mystery to me. But wth.

Note to others: donโt respond to steam curator requests for keys. They are scams

People are always clamouring for games like Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger and Terranigma for an HD-2D remake. But you know what REALLY needs an HD-2D remake? FINAL FANTASY DIMENSIONS! Stuck on mobile with no controller support, not to mention itโs incredible!

So did most of my RPG Maker dev follows migrate to other platforms? Nowadays I only notice 3-4 when it used to be a dozen or so. I don't have a Bluesky but I'll make one if that's where they all went.

immediately after having a vague idea, building something "in your head" too much without even bothering to see what it potentially feels like in practice is extremely counterproductive
โQuestion for game devs: WHEN do you actually start prototyping? Is it when U just have a vibe & a rough idea? Or after mapping out the whole lore, mechanics, characters, plot twists etc..,? Asking as a curious noob who may or may not be spiraling ๐ Teach me your ways๐โโ๏ธ๐

Like 95% of game design essays look at a completed game and try to explain the design choices from that perspective. But games start as a blank project file and get built up iteratively from that. If you're trying to MAKE games, you need to view design as a process, not a result
@TylerGlaiel What would be a good direction?

If you totally want "shorter games with worse graphics made by people who are paid more to do less", you have to actually buy shorter games with worse graphics

I've decided to quit making speedrun history videos, and start making YTPs instead. I hope you all enjoy Stawn Pars.
