I think there are definitely other reasons at play…
The directors of Madagascar say a 4th movie could happen, but only if there’s a story “worthy” of the franchise. They add that Universal knows it would be profitable, but won’t move forward without the right story.

i'm really upset with the state of the world right now. every time i look at social media or the tv, something abhorrent is going on in the world and it breaks my heart, but most of all, it makes me incredibly afraid for the future. i wish people would be kinder.
