Mornin'! It's probably difficult for you to imagine just how much music I have composed over the last 40+ years, and indeed just how much fun it has been to record with many of the world's finest musicians. Just the variety of jazz line-ups alone is incredible!🙏

It is a superb collection of interesting instruments. Always fascinating to play. My pleasure yesterday to perform one of Rachmaninov’s Steinways, ( rated by Steinway as one of their best, on loan to the museum from a private collection) at @MusicalMuseum
Wonderful afternoon at Hatchlands trying historical pianos. This country house has one of the most impressive collections of keyboard instruments in the world from 1580 onwards, especially those connected directly with composers. Alec was the most gracious, knowledgeable host.

Time & time again in feature films & tv productions around the globe, my piano tracks are being mimed to in a bar/restaurant/hotel scene. All those years experience playing piano in pubs/clubs etc. came in very handy!😂🎹

I’m all for study & knowledge of music & have a great deal of fun with analysis & theory….but ‘essential’ for what?🤷.
There is some more nuance to it but simply put: Major is the successor to Ionian, Lydian, and Mixolydian, and Minor the successor of Dorian, Phrygian, and Aeolian. Understanding modes as being part of the foundation of Major and Minor is essential.

I've just completed an album of Satie-inspired tracks to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his death. So in total contrast to previous post, just about as laid-back as possible, my jazz version of Gymnopedie 1 from the soundtrack of film 'Say When' starring Keira Knightley.
