It’s late Christmas Eve & time for my annual ‘Reindeer Walk’ where I grab my sleigh bells & go for a 45 minute walk around the neighbourhood while I jingle the bells. Is anyone awake? Does anyone hear me? I have no idea. But I like to think there’s at least one child lying

Success bred enemies for Anatoli Tarasov, whose abrasive personality, defiance of bureaucrats, and unwillingness to compromise clashed with powerful figures such as Andrei Starovoitov. From 1946 to 1951, Starovoitov was a key player for CSKA. In addition to establishing a

Did you know that in the 1960s, the Soviet national team would visit Lloyd Percival at his Fitness Institute in Toronto and allow him to test their players? Percival had cutting-edge equipment to conduct oxygen uptake tests (essentially VO2 max measurements), and he could

As I wait for Path to the Summit: Part II to be formatted for publishing on Amazon, it's time to sit down and sketch out the framework for Part III: The 1972 Summit Series. If anyone has information or articles from the Soviet perspective of the series, please reach out. I

It's been a long time, but I finally got around to write a new article for the Society of International Hockey Research. It's the first in series about line management in the 1972 Summit Series. @72SeriesBendell, @Jim_Genac https://t.co/3VojneMLIq

Inaugural game for the Vancouver Goldeneyes last night. Part of what makes Pacific Coliseum a unique stadium for the Goldeneyes is that they are the main tenant. Larger-than-life images of their players are plastered on pillars. The gift shop only sells the team’s merchandise.

Took a break from the book writing last night to attend the Inaugural Game of the Vancouver Goldeneyes in the Professional Women’s Hockey League. 4-3 OT win over the Seattle Torrent. Very cool to see Pacific Coliseum filled for pro hockey again after 30 years.

Tomorrow is Remembrance Day. Here are some photos from 1943 showing Canadian troops transforming Vancouver’s Kitsilano Beach into a training ground to prepare for the Allied invasion of German occupied France on D-Day. #CanadaRemembers #GetYourPoppy #lestweforget2025

The NHL Alumni Association is heartbroken to learn that Mel Bridgman has passed away at the age of 70. After recording 157 points in just 66 games for the Victoria Cougars of the Western Canada Hockey League (now the WHL) in 1974-75, the Philadelphia Flyers selected Mel first

After watching Trey Yesavage’s record setting World Series performance last night, here’s a flashback to May 31, 2025 when he was pitching for the Vancouver Canadians at Nat Bailey Stadium.
