The Rays signed Phillips for $629,200, the 2nd-highest bonus ever given to a non-drafted free agent ($732,500, T.J. Friedl, Reds, 2016). Philips was a potential top-three-rds pick before a hand injury and a stress fracture in his lower back limited him to six starts this spring.
BREAKING: #MTSU 1B/RHP Trace Phillips has been signed by the Tampa Bay Rays. The Spring Hill, Tenn. native spent two seasons with the Blue Raiders and was an All-CUSA selection in 2024. Congratulations, Trace!
