Is this a joke? Wyoming is 3x this but could never host the Boonta Eve Classic.

The population of Tatooine is 200,000. That’s about 2.4% the population of New York City.

UPDATE: .@GovernorGordon waved the white flag. After making plans to violate the law known, a man was allowed to waltz past Gordon's office and into the women's restroom - under the supervision of capitol law enforcement. Wyoming deserves a leader who fights for real women.

“I think we’re getting to a point where action needs to start being more direct,” Kelver said. “I think we need to get creative with our direct action in ways that are reminiscent of the direct actions we’ve seen before through history.”.

4 p.m. last day of June. On the couch next to the cat. Tucking into a 78 page court doc. Sipping a [redacted]. I'll almost certainly be stressed out later this week when the council/the governor/a storm cloud does something big hours before the holiday — so I'm enjoying this now.

"I'm charging higher rent to keep up with the market" = "I can get more money from the poorest people in Laramie so I'm going to" — but you're wording it like it's some law of the universe. Maybe you're not a good person? Maybe the love you've received was given by mistake?.

A funny thing about my career is that several times people have tried to justify their actions with greed and I go "no, that's just greed" and they get very mad because nothing else in American society encourages them to reflect on that point.

I'll be following all of these threads as they play out in the courts, in committee hearings and in conversations between parents, teachers, officials and everyone else with a stake in Wyoming's public education system.

And that's where we stand as of this weekend:. - The state is actively reexamining its public school funding model;.- A recent court decision says it has to improve that model;.- School vouchers might pay for private school tuition in the fall, but they've been temporarily paused.

On Friday, while we were recording, a district court judge granted WEA's request for a preliminary injunction — halting the voucher payments from going out while the lawsuit proceeds. While WEA praised the decision, the Wyoming Freedom Caucus decried it.

. and religious schools that discriminate against LGBTQ+ kids + families. WEA is joined by several parents who have children falling in both categories. They told me they don't want their taxes going to schools that can discriminate against their kids.

Just as the application deadline was closing, WEA brought its new lawsuit, seeking to halt the vouchers from going out. It raised many of the same concerns already raised, while adding that the vouchers could support schools that discriminate against kids with disabilities . .

They also said the program will defund public education. The money doesn't literally come from public ed, but it opponents argued that general fund money could be better spent investing in public ed. Governor Gordon was adamant public ed is safe:.

Opponents, including several other members of Laramie's delegation, warned the program was unconstitutional, and would give taxpayer money to schools that lack the same oversight or accountability public schools have.

This year's bill was sponsored by Albany County Rep. Ocean Andrew (HD-46) and brings the total appropriation for the program to about $50 million. The proposal was hotly debated during the 2025 session.

What are vouchers?. They're payments (of public money) used to support private, charter or home schooling costs. Across two successive sessions, the state decided those payments can be up to $7,000 and go to any family, regardless of income.

But that's not the only lawsuit from WEA about school funding in the courts this year. Earlier this month, they launched another, seeking to stop the state's new voucher program.

But there are complications this year!. For one, the Wyoming Education Association just won a major lawsuit against the state. It ruled Wyoming has been underfunding its public schools and ordered state legislators to do better.
