The purpose of Paul exalting Christ and explaining the power of the gospel among the proud and divided Corinthians in chapter 1 is to this aim: “So that as it is written, ‘Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.’”

Every member of the church is in Christ because God called them (on the basis of his free grace) and He, not us, did the work to save and unite us to Himself. “And because of Him you are in Christ Jesus…”

Paul’s counsel to the divided Corinthians. Some elevated/followed him and his counsel is to exalt Christ and simultaneously lower himself. “Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you?” He is an excellent counselor aiming at disordered worship behind the divisions.

This is one of the sweetest promises to cling to in your battle with sin: “…Our Lord Jesus Christ, who will sustain you to the end.” 1 Corinthians 1:8 Through every trial and temptation, he will sustain us to the end.

The human heart, when oriented toward idols, is insatiable. Only when the heart is set on Christ in proper worship will it find true satisfaction.

The Lord alone knows the heart of every person with perfect knowledge. “Sheol and Abaddon lie open before the Lord; how much more the hearts of the children of man!” Prov 15:11 Open his Word. It is a mirror that will expose our hearts so that we might move in repentance to Him
