May the memories of the lives lost be a blessing, and may we remain committed to building a world where peace and dignity are not only dreamt but achieved.

Mourning one loss does not diminish another. Our hearts can and must hold more than one truth, more than one sorrow. At this painful moment, we stand in solidarity with the victims, their families, and all those who carry the weight of this violence.

As we grieve, we know that some will say: “What about the innocent lives lost in Gaza?” We mourn those lives as well. Our tradition teaches that to lose one life is to lose an entire world. The grief of one people does not negate the grief of another.

We know that bus stop. We know the sounds of a Monday morning in Jerusalem: buses arriving, cars moving through the city, ordinary people living their lives. Today, those familiar streets are stained with blood in a city meant to symbolize peace.

We mourn the beautiful souls tragically taken in today’s terror attack in #Jerusalem. They were waiting at a bus stop — on their way to work, to school, to shop for groceries, to go about the rhythms of daily life. None of them will return home. #Israel

"AB 715 affirms that our public schools can, and must, be places where every student is protected, respected, and included. If we’re serious about building inclusive learning environments, then passing this bill is not optional — it’s essential." Act Now:

#AB715 is a direct, common-sense response to this crisis. It strengthens anti-discrimination protections in schools for all students while ensuring that antisemitism is addressed with the seriousness it demands. #caedu #caleg #capol

Over 60 years later, the March reminds us that the fight for justice is far from over. To honor its legacy, we must continue the work — protecting voting rights, standing against discrimination, advocating for fair wages, and building communities rooted in dignity and equity.

On this day in 1963, hundreds of thousands gathered for the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, where Dr. King delivered his iconic I Have a Dream speech. This historic movement helped pave the way for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

@MayorFrey: "These children were literally praying. Thoughts and prayers alone are not enough." Our tradition compels us to turn pain into action. We must demand common-sense gun reforms and work to create communities where every child can learn, worship, and live free from fear.

Our hearts break for all those impacted by today’s horrific shooting at the Annunciation Catholic School in #Minneapolis. Two children are dead, and many more injured. No place is safe from the epidemic of gun violence, not even a house of worship on the first week of school.

On this day in 1920, the 19th Amendment was certified, securing women’s right to vote. Over a century later, #womensequalityday reminds us that the fight isn’t over. We must defend voting rights, demand protections against suppression, and ensure every voice can be heard.

We've been down this road too many times to celebrate. But as a people of hope we approach this moment with cautious optimism, praying that in the hours & days to come we will see the release of hostages. Until then, we remain steadfast, without letting our hopes outrun reality.

The fight isn’t over. Today, voters face modern barriers like strict ID laws, fewer polling places, attacks on early voting, and voter roll purges. Voting is a cornerstone of democracy - 60 years later, it still must be protected.

The Damage Has Been Done. Polling places closed. Voter rolls purged. ID laws weaponized. Access to the ballot narrowed. Communities of color are silenced while democracy is at risk.

John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act Named for civil rights icon John Lewis, this bill would’ve restored the VRA by requiring federal review of voting changes in states with histories of suppression. It was repeatedly blocked by the Senate filibuster.

Brnovich v. DNC (2021) This Supreme Court ruling weakened Section 2 of the VRA, making it harder to challenge voting laws that harm communities of color even with clear evidence of discrimination.

Shelby v. Holder Gutted the VRA, several states passed restrictive voting laws like strict ID rules & polling closures that had been blocked. These changes hurt communities of color & ushered in a new era of voter suppression disguised as security.

Sadly, the Voting Rights Act is a shell of itself. Over the last 25 years, between Congress and the Supreme Court, we’ve watched the Voting Rights Act get slowly and systematically dismantled.
