My latest for @voxdotcom looks at livestock auctions: hidden spaces where animals are brutally handled, moved in and moved out no matter what. I am grateful to the undercover investigator who entered these areas to gather and expose the abuses.

Canadians freaking out about cloned meat while remaining a-okay with good ol’ factory farmed meat is … interesting. Remember, there’s nothing really “natural” about modern meat. https://t.co/EvklfulRjX @Sentient_Media

Amid the fake beef culture wars, why does the "naturalness" of meat go unquestioned?

High-protein diets are surging in popularity, based in part on a persistent fantasy of cavemen eating mostly meat. But what does the science say? @JessLReid explains.

As shots ring out at a BC ostrich farm, let us not forget that millions of birds have been routinely “depopulated” in horrific ways all across the country, due to being farmed for food … just as these ostriches were once, too. https://t.co/O4VnkcqX8m @TorontoStar

Really big news that I'm still catching up on—the 2nd largest US breeder of dogs for experimentation is shutting down, after Envigo, the former biggest, was shut down last year. In both cases, it was pretty much entirely because of investigative work from animal rights activists

Even with Americans expected to spend over $13 billion on candy for Halloween, candy companies still end up with a surplus. Some of these leftovers are sold to meat and dairy producers, who in turn add it to their animal feed. @JessLReid explains: https://t.co/rgZ3VizyLT

people will think this is just vegan motivated reasoning but it's not: you really probably don't need protein powder. That doesn't mean no one could benefit from it, but most people consuming it simply don't need to
