New article w/ @olson_km & Jolene Smyth. We evaluate the age old question: Is your Best Estimate (BE) actually fine? In mail, telling respondents that their BE is fine doesn't help data quality much, but also doesn't hurt! In CATI, BE reduces response time

Last week on #Survivor43, @Jesse_L_Lopez explained the importance of using a consistent, balanced response scale to Jeff Probst and all of America. (Yes, this actually happened.) What new methodological insights will Jesse impart in this week's episode? 🤔.

Last paper is @nedenglish from @NORCNews discussing transitions from F2F to multi-mode for NSHAP and GSS “COVID potentially presented an opportunity to accelerate these transitions.” Transition from F2F allowed shift to adaptive/responsive design for GSS.

Next, David Cantor discusses moving HINTS from RDD to ABS via a bridge study. Bridge allowed for measuring and considering mode effects. But data users did not always consider the split in their published work.

First up is @olson_km covering highlights from the @AAPOR task force report on this topic (. COVID has accelerated transitions to mixed-mode. Also, she and @jolene_smyth are currently working on a meta-analysis of this topic.

Curious about bias lurking in metered/trace data? Authors consider potential bias sources: who gets selected? who won’t/can’t provide trace data? how much activity isn’t traced b/c all of R’s devices/browsers aren’t metered? Sims show bias varies w/ topic & undercovered devices.

My paper w/ @olson_km & @jolene_smyth comparing Self-Description scales to Agree/Disagree is one of four finalists for @TweetMRS's Silver Award (Best @tweetijmr Paper of 2021). How cool is it to get that news during #AAPOR?.
