Are there words that might have done their time in poems like 'upon'? What are your bugbears?

Did change seem on the cards following the death of George Floyd only because the powers-that-be were afraid? Are they now rolling back all EDI initiatives, crying (imaginary) poverty, because they don't feel there's anything to fear? Might be a risky tactic.

It's challenging to talk to young people about a world that's increasingly fractured. Does a knowledge of history help? Can poetry illuminate the present? Here's a resource I've developed with the British Museum that might be useful:

I went to a one-day poetry conference at a university yesterday with only white speakers on the programme. The 2 keynotes proved that white privilege can lead to lacklustre work without backbone. A commitment to EDI strengthens the entire system.

Underneath the proposals and all the other paperwork, there's a tiny bit of news that won't stop anything bad happening or make any of the leaders decent people: I woke up to a poetry acceptance. Will this small announcement even reach another set of eyes?

@JennyMitchellGo @NineArchesPress Hugely poignant. Surviving inadequate mothering, the hunger to be seen (and heard), finding a lifeline in books and an adult who shows encouraging interest. Love the chocolate bars (literally). Potent images of this child's need for her soul's hunger to be satisfied. So good👏

Whilst politicians stir up division, universities, museums and libraries say they don't have any money to offer creative work for communities. If these institutions don't do the work who's going to offer an alternative to hate? Is it horribly short-sighted?
