2 residencies. 3x the parties. This weekend, I graduated from Med-Peds residency with distinction in leadership & research. The culmination of 9 years of hard work, moves to 3 different states & growth & learning. I couldn’t have picked a better group to walk this road with.

Exciting, nerve wracking, all the feeling generating changes coming. Soon graduating residency. Gearing up to start fellowship, move back to MN. Looking to buy my first home, while my family is moving from our childhood home! Bittersweet but can’t wait this new chapter. #medpeds.

What a dream team of humans! My residency partner in crime @MichelleProng & our fearless leaders @ericamillermd & Dr. Anita Ray. A privilege to see a need for our program & work together improving things for those coming behind us as we graduate. #medpeds #womeninmedicine.

She can't yet fathom how freeing that realization is. I remind her she's worthy as she is & loved by many and tell her buckle up, God's just getting started with her. Just lean into those gifts. Say yes to new things, even if you do them scared. The possibilities are limitless.

I know she still struggles, trying so hard to please others, craving acceptance. Worried any moment someone will catch there's something different about her. That would never do. All her energy is spent trying to blend in. In time, she will learn it's not worth the cost.

She worries she'll never be a doctor. Her hazel eyes go wide when I say we finally did it. They told her sharing her story was risky, her reason "why medicine" wasn't good enough. I tell her to cling to that purpose with everything she has. She'll discover it's her superpower.

There's so much unknown. She worries she'll lose her friends. Those were never easy to make. I tell her 10 years later, you will have friends across the country. You & Jill are still close. You see your college crew as often as you can. It's tough but worth the work.

I tell her how much I miss sparring & can't wait to start karate classes again. I remind her that stubborn, competitive spirit will serve her well time & time again. We order caramel coolers (that sweet tooth never goes away) & sit down. She shares she's nervous for graduation.

Loving this trend. I had coffee with my 22 year old self today. She was 15 minutes early. So was I. Some things never change. She came in her karate pants and shirt, fresh from leading martial arts club that morning. I was wearing scrubs and my white coat.

As I’m finishing last rotations, starting onboarding & planning for moving for fellowship, I’m feeling nostalgic. I’m excited for what’s next & grateful for the wonderful people I’ve met in residency. Couldn’t do it without my mentors, friends & family. #medpeds #womeninmedicine.

With my rank list complete & now only waiting for 12/4 to find out where I’m moving for fellowship, I’m thinking about budgeting for my next steps. Aside from boards, license fees & moving any other costs folks weren’t expecting that I should plan for? #medpeds. #womeninmedicine.

Having a blast on interviews meeting folks in peds endo. Some of the happiest people, who just love their field & patients. It’s fun seeing people excited about the topics I’m interested in & getting a sense of how my career might evolve over time 😊#medpeds #womeninmedicine.

Been reminded how infrequently we receive positive feedback as residents. When we only hear about what people didn’t like, would do differently, it can feel like you can’t do anything right. So give positive feedback, catch people doing good. It makes a difference. #medpeds.
