Thank you to everyone who participated. The community clearly has work to do, and we're committed to being part of the solution. If you are interested in the full regression analysis, check out the technical appendix: https://t.co/24ytq5vp8t

Given this feedback, and data we received on how people like to spend their evenings, we will be organizing sober after events that are open to the community! This weekend Nishant will be hosting at Beyond the Board

We also asked for feedback on measures to make the community safer: “an activity that is ran by people who actively will stay sober and have the responsibility of making everyone feel safe ” “Organize events not at bars” “Judges are super important to utilize at an event. ”

LGBT+ respondents reported lower sentiments on all scales, but much of this was explained by gender differences, as LGBT+ respondents included more women and nonbinary individuals. After controlling for gender, belonging evened out and impacts on respect and safety were modest.

Encouragingly, there was no statistically significant difference between white and nonwhite respondents except for outside event safety. However, the sample size in our data was small. If you are a POC in the Pokemon community, we’d love to hear from you in the future!

We also asked about access to safety resources. This was a surprisingly strong predictor of sentiment, particularly event safety. In response to this, we are preparing information to help inform the community. Check out this thread on support tickets! https://t.co/VgN0GxOXeM
Here are some quick instructions for how to submit a safety concern to Play! Pokemon using support tickets. This is the best means of reporting unacceptable conduct of players, and professors alike. This can be done for yourself or on someone's behalf. https://t.co/VvoOYeNiYf

But the averages hide a stark divide between women and men. Across all 4 measures women had lower sentiments than men (all statistically significant). The gap is especially pronounced for feelings of respect and after-event safety, with 30% and 35% respectively rating only 1 or 2

Overall responses were quite positive. On a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being highest, belonging was rated quite highly with 74% of respondents 4 or 5 they belong. Event safety was also very positive. Respect and after event safety were more ambivalent, but still positive overall

It is difficult to say how representative this sample is of the community more broadly. TPCi has not released demographics of event participants. In future surveys, we would value the input of more people of color, women, and players from outside of VGC

First, who were our respondents? The majority (75%) were VGC players. 69% of respondents were men, 28% were women, and 3% nonbinary. 75% of the responses were white, 10% asian, 7% latino, and 5% other races. 45% identified as LGBT+

We surveyed the Pokemon Community on belonging, respect, event safety, and after-event safety. We received 223 responses and the results revealed significant disparities between men and women. A thread on what we found 🧵

Please take the time to fill out this survey. It only takes 5 minutes and will help inform how events can be more safe and welcoming
In light of recent events in the Pokemon world, a dedicated group of community members have put together a survey on safety at major events. The goal is to gather data to see how we can help events feel safer. Please share to any and all folks who attend! https://t.co/Eb43cy6iCA
