I cannot emphasize enough how strong athletic programs can help turn around a campus academically. There may be other ways, but it is definitely a formula that works.

People were initially upset about the Elko hire at A&M - while I had friends in the industry say that man can coach. What did most people miss from that hire? He fit there. Fit matters more than talent. Chasing big names without program fit is a recipe for future payouts.

No. 7 Texas Tech is currently expected to start backup Will Hammond at QB tomorrow vs. Arizona State, sources tell me and @chris_hummer for @CBSSports. Starting QB Behren Morton didn’t practice all week due to an injury. Hammond was a Class of 2024 four-star recruit.
