D’Souza doesn’t know dates. Let’s teach him. The “war” was over in 1865 and the “union was preserved” (by unconstitutional force). The Republicans then moved to kicking the same states out of the Union illegally—another “Conservative” move?

This rubbish continues to circulate. “Conservative” here means “status quo.” But this has nothing to do with conservatism today which seeks to uproot the status quo. Conservatives are not against federal power to save and protect the country, as in the Civil War and World War 2.

Trumbull was a leader for Republicans in the Senate. He knew in July of 1861 that Lincoln broke the law. Instead of a censure, he helped retroactively change the law. I've read his pre-war speeches. https://t.co/yOKCTsB8P9
