I think a lot of teens who read tend towards fantasy and sci fi as escapism from their every day life. I know I did. I think I’ve gravitated more towards grounded sci fi and political thriller as I’ve gotten old to feel like individual actions can affect change.

Some days I want to just write from my laptop, take pictures, edit videos, put my work out there. Other days I remember I’d never be able to avoid hard topics and I don’t want my income anchored to how my audience reacts to things I talk about. New lost tomorrow Substack

When I decided to get a degree in writing, I specifically didn't want to be a journalist. I thought they were cool at the time, but didn't want to be one. My recent writings feel more like journalism than anything else I've ever written and it makes me uncomfortable.
