Almost £7000 now raised via 250-plus donations following the Par track arson incident. This will no doubt keep rising, too, after the @itvwestcountry coverage of the story. #TrackAttack @NewParAC @par_track https://t.co/q7gVFgdHLV

I've trained on and off on Par track in Cornwall since the 1980s so it's disappointing to see it gormlessly damaged by what local residents in this usually peaceful part of the country are calling "feral youths". 📸 @Par_track / @NewParAC https://t.co/q7gVFgdHLV

Paddy Dever has historically been neck and neck with Emile Cairess as they've risen through the age groups. Cairess was 4th in the 2024 Olympic marathon, so it's no surprise to see Dever enjoying a strong debut in NYC. 📸 @AthleticsImages – Cairess vs Dever in the 2019 BUCS XC.

Remember standing (and sweating) roadside at the 2019 World Champs 'midnight marathons' in Doha and being in awe of Ruth Chepngetich as she won gold after half the field DNF'd in the heat. She's now had a 3yr doping ban, but it's a travesty her 2:09:56 world record will survive.

Sept 25, 2000 has gone down in athletics folklore as "magic Monday". It was my first Olympics for @AthleticsWeekly and unfolded slap bang on our weekly print deadline. Here's my original report of Cathy Freeman's iconic 400m win ➡️ https://t.co/xH9omtJqC2 📸 @AthleticsImages

🇰🇪 Team tactics from Kenya? Mary Moraa draws Keely Hodgkinson into a scrap up front while eventual winner Lilian Odira sits off the fast early pace. Olympic champ not only beaten by Odira but loses to Georgia Hunter Bell, too. This really is a championship of surprises.

Remember watching Marita Koch run a 400m WR of 47.60 in Canberra on World of Sport or BBC Grandstand in 1985. It's taken 40 years for someone to give it a serious scare as Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone runs 47.78 at the World Champs in Tokyo.
