Akiem Hicks says it's clear to him that Colin Kaepernick lost his career because of kneeing then drops a bomb in the middle of the conversation: "We signed Mike Glennon."
Brian Griese just said that Nick Foles told the ESPN crew that sometimes Nagy sends in a play call and Foles already knows it won't work because he won't have enough time after the snap. That's something.
Andrew Luck really botched this whole thing by not consulting Colts fans, the media and all of Twitter before making this gigantic life decision for his family. Hopefully others will learn from his mistake.
Stugotz greeted me with a “Hey buddy” on Radio Row today, and I immediately called his bluff by demanding that he say my name.
He guessed, “Bill.”
But he guessed it so confidently that I started thinking he was right.
Kenny Stills lets it fly on the NFL regarding Kaepernick & Reid--
When asked what it would take for him to feel that progress is being made, says, "You can’t say you support the players and the protest, then blackball the players that started the protest."
WR Allen Robinson wants to be a Bear for as long as they’ll have him. “I definitely would foresee spending many more years here,” he says.
His goal is to be the best receiver in franchise history. The Bears need to give him that chance—
The Soldier Field grass is so uniquely bad that Bears kicker Cairo Santos has to find poorly maintained public parks in Florida to truly simulate it in the offseason--
Again: Justin Fields is not a project. He showed up as ready to play in the NFL as any of the other 1st-round QBs--more ready than some. The Bears' slow-playing on him has never made sense to me.
Justin Fields says fans chanting his name when Andy Dalton is in the game is “disrespectful” and they need to realize that “Andy is a human being, too.”
To the end, Matt Nagy was incredibly composed, respectful and pleasant in press conferences. That doesn't make him a good coach, but it's impressive as a person and I respect it. That could not have been easy, especially over the last month and a half.
Bears CB Jaylon Johnson says if the team made him a good offer in the next few months, he would take it and not be interested in testing the market as a free agent: "I want to stay here... I would love to stay here.”
Allen Robinson says & does the "right" thing at every turn. I'm impressed by his restraint. The Bears have under-appreciated him for 2 years and the worst thing he's done in response was delete some pictures from his Instagram or whatever. His professionalism is off the charts.
When asked about his courtesy toward the media, Robert Quinn quotes what he says is a familiar saying: "A man's got two things: His words and his nuts. And you don't want to lose either."
Bears K Cairo Santos, to the Sun-Times:
“It’s reckless that we have...big-time players on both teams out there, and it’s too bad if the field becomes an issue where there’s an injury and that star is out for the season... It’s a reckless thing that they’re not taking care of it."
Dolphins announce to local media that they’re doing a carving station for today’s pre-game meal. Very nice of them.
Also, Greg Cote yells out, “Carvin’ it.”
Bears RB David Montgomery immediately pulls Justin Fields aside after the fumble and is demonstrating for him a way to protect the ball better when trying to spin in that scenario.
Bears rookie Jaquan Brisker said he was surprised how nice Soldier Field looked when he saw it in person a few months ago, because he said it doesn't look good on Madden.
The league reviewed the second-to-last play of Bears-Broncos (Mitch Trubisky’s 25-yd pass to Allen Robinson) and determined it was officiated correctly, a source said. Robinson was ruled down with :01 left, giving Chicago the chance to call timeout & kick the game-winner.
Bears coach Matt Nagy thinks the team really snuck one by the NFL by getting Darnell Mooney in the 5th round. Says the Bears were lucky there was no combine last year otherwise the secret would've been out.
Bears WR Taylor Gabriel says he hopes he gets a shot to beat Adrian Amos deep. He says they stopped texting this week: "I'm not your friend this week. I'll be your friend again next week."
Bears WR DJ Moore--
"I advocated for [Fields] and to see it come through would be amazing, but if it doesn’t, I’ll still be happy. I don’t get paid to make that decision. I just go out there and make as many plays as I can..."
Kenny Stills has been awarded the Miami Dolphins' community service award two years in a row, is heavily involved in various youth organizations, was a team captain last season, has been one of Miami's most productive players and is considered a model employee by coach Adam Gase.
Bears DL Mario Edwards was fined $9,522 for taunting Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, per source.
Rodgers was not fined for his part in the incident. Replay clearly showed him grabbing Edwards’ facemask.
NFL clubs were informed today that a private workout will be held for Colin Kaepernick on Saturday in Atlanta. Session will include on-field work and an interview. All clubs are invited to attend, and video of both the workout and interview will be made available to clubs.
Bears TE Cole Kmet was not fined for his unsportsmanlike conduct penalty in the playoff game against the Saints, essentially confirmation that it shouldn't have been called.
The Bears need to fire Matt Nagy & Ryan Pace on Thursday night, irrespective of what happens vs. the 0-9-1 Lions.
It's not about a playoff race. It's about dignity & standards. You can’t accept this level of incompetence and expect to be taken seriously--
End of 2021 season:
Bears announce Nagy firing 9:04 a.m. morning after final game
End of 2022 season:
Bears announce Eberflus year-end presser the morning of their final game
End of 2023 season:
48 hours after the season ended and no word on anything. This isn't normal.
The attention might’ve ruined others, but Travis Kelce seems remarkably well suited to handle it:
“It’s only given me energy,” he said. “I’m very fortunate to have amazing things going for me. I’d be silly to find any negativity in what’s going on.”
Bears WR Allen Robinson can't say enough about how much he likes playing at Lambeau Field: "It's the atmosphere you would envision from being a kid."
Tread lightly, bud.
Great pre-game chat with my bud today--
Me: How's it going?
Roy: It is what it is.

Bears TE Cole Kmet: "With Justin, there's the play that's called and then there's the second play, which turns into backyard football. I'll definitely be getting some extra sprints in this week.
Bears GM Ryan Pace says not only is 2nd-rounder Teven Jenkins getting a shot to win a job at RT, they will also let him compete against Charles Leno at LT.
Dolphins rookie S Jevon Holland got INTs on Fields & Dalton today. Andy Dalton says of Miami's defense, "There's a lot of in-your-face man coverage. It's great for our guys to get that."
Bears coach Matt Eberflus says it’s unmistakable that QB Justin Fields’ footwork and timing are significantly upgraded from what Eberflus saw on film from last season. It’s a big part of why he’s optimistic about Fields making a jump this season.
Bears TE Cole Kmet couldn't get over Lions DE Aidan Hutchinson jumping offsides on 4th-&-13 to create the free-play TD pass from Justin Fields to DJ Moore.
Colts LB Darius Leonard gave me a sharp rebuke when I jokingly asked if he's glad he won't have to hear about Matt Eberflus' HITS acronym anymore.
“No, I’ll miss it,” he said. “That HITS principle made me who I am.”
Weighty words from a big star--
Bears DT Akiem Hicks says despite the contract stalemate he still wants to be a Bear the rest of his career. He seems optimistic that they work through it.
Oh you do? YOU wonder what it might be like to watch good quarterbacking? YOU wonder? YOU? I’VE SPENT THE LAST FOUR YEARS OF MY LIFE COVERING TANNEHILL, OSWEILER, FALES, CUTLER AND NOW THISJJJJJJJJJJJJJMKHGG UJFGHJJKKKMMMMMMMNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
Mike Singletary tells the Sun-Times, "For Steve McMichael to be in the Hall of Fame, it means that we’re together again in a place that no one can take away from him. In the football world, he’s finally home."
Bears rookie S Jaquan Brisker (Penn State) said he wants
#1
, but accepts that it belongs to Justin Fields (Ohio State). Brisker will wear
#9
for the Bears and looks forward to going head-to-head with Fields in practice.

When informed on
@670TheScore
that the Panthers fired GM Scott Fitterer, Bears WR DJ Moore says, “I might’ve played a part in that since they traded me… Hope he lands on his feet.”
Matt Nagy says, correctly, that Mitch Trubisky’s underperformance and subsequent exit was not solely Trubisky’s fault.
So you could call it a collaboration.
Bears QB Justin Fields said this game felt “kinda like you’re in a dark space.” Says he’s getting goosebumps right now just thinking about how disastrous this all was.
Darnell Mooney was the 25th wide receiver picked in the 2020 draft. He ranks fourth in his class in catches (107), fifth in yards (1,325) and seventh in TD catches (7).
Every question to Matt Nagy about rolling Justin Fields out or using extra blockers, etc. was met with some version of yeah, that’s a good idea and more vague starts-with-me-ends-with-me answers.
