On the left: Me, carrying an M4 rifle in Afghanistan.
On the right: Me, dropping a 120mm mortar round in Afghanistan.
Giving civilians assault rifles meant for war makes about as much sense as giving them mortars.
America should not be a war zone.

I am not responsible for your student debt. I grew up in poverty in NC. Ate from a garden, name was on community Angel tree for Christmas, bought clothes from yard sales & if I was lucky, on a rare occasion Sky City.
I joined the Air Force then went to college. I made it happen.
So you can buy $3 million in medical debt for $15k and I’m sure some economist can explain how this makes sense but I’m just gonna default to money only being real for poor people.
The members of Trinity Moravian Church in North Carolina purchased nearly $3.3 million of local residents’ medical debt for just $15,048.
Then, they held a debt jubilee ceremony and burned up the debt, canceling it all.
Tomorrow is gonna be surreal with all the people going "never forget 911" which killed the same number of people that have died in America of covid since...Tuesday.

“Jay, aren’t you shocked Republicans would block aid to veterans who are injured?”
*Me, remembering the 2004 RNC where the delegates wore Purple Heart bandaids to mock a wounded Vietnam veteran*
I've had a few people ask how the puffer fish survives being stung by the scorpion.
Two reasons.
One, not all scorpions are venomous and this one probably wasn't.
Two, puffer fish don't have scales like normal fish. They have bony plates with spikes on them.
Their skeleton:
Ah, now they’re posting my address like I’m supposed to be scared.
Sorry guys, you can’t get me. I live next to a school and y’all aren’t allowed within 500 yards of one.
MSNBC just showed this woman crying at the Trump rally when asked about the migrant children.
When the reporter asked her why she was emotional, she said:
"He tries so hard and so many people are down on him."
Meaning Trump. She was crying over how Trump is being treated.
I love people who are disputing this by saying it couldn’t have happened because they never saw anyone throw a party. Good to have the main characters of the universe check in.
Shooting under stress is extremely difficult. Even for the most well-trained shooters. A teacher is not going to be able to do this. A lunch lady is not going to be able to do this. Cops & soldiers literally get paid to do this & most of them can't shoot accurately under stress.
I've seen ppl comment about getting these as pets. They do make good pets.
But...
They can't be kept in a tank w other fish. They prefer to be alone.
Also, they need hard food, like clams or crabs, bc their teeth never stop growing and need to file them down on something hard.
Remember when Johnny Cash sang "each week we lose a hundred fine young men" about Vietnam and that was supposed to be an indictment on how little we value life?
So if you’re wondering why the friend who runs the bar in Loch Henry (episode 2 of
#BlackMirror
) looks familiar, it’s because he’s the actor who played Podrick Payne in Game of Thrones.
Memorial day is always a conflicting time for me now.
I was fortunate, very fortunate, in my deployment that we didn't have anyone killed. A few got injured, but nobody died.
Then in the eight years since we've been back a half dozen guys I served with took their own lives.
Let me tell you guys about my personal experience shooting accurately and shooting accurately under stress and how it relates to this "let's arm teachers" debate.
Not because they suck, but because it's nearly impossible to hit a target in one shot when pumped full of adrenaline. And if you're in a school with a shooter and dozens of children, if you're not shooting accurately you're just creating crossfire.
One day we’ll reckon with the fact that America started wars in Afghanistan & Iraq to avenge an attack orchestrated by Saudi Arabia and when future generations ask why we didn’t just attack Saudi Arabia we can threaten them with revoking their scholarship to MBS-Yale University.

's first Q at the press conference: "You say there were 19 officers gathered in the hallway or somewhere. What efforts were made to try and break through that door? You say it was locked. What efforts were the officers making?" The awful answer: "None at that time."
Those uniformed...whatever they are...in Portland are wearing camelbacks.
I mean...It's not Kandahar, guys. There's probably potable water available in Portland.
If baseball doesn't cancel the season now they should just play until every team is crippled by the virus and the last team still able to field a roster wins the World Series.
Honestly, being in the military is like having a job where 50% of the time you’re like “I can’t believe I get paid for this” and the other 50% is “I don’t get paid enough for this shit” and it’s completely random on a day-to-day basis.
The day after Memorial day is my favorite day of the year bc it means 364 days until this country fakes sincerity at the loss of life in war.
*spoiler*
If Americans valued their war dead they wouldn't shrug their shoulders at the notion we've been at war for 17 years.
I've seen hard-ass scout snipers just absolutely break down inconsolably crying when one of their own was injured and feared dead.
Showing emotion and empathy and sadness isn't weakness.
The inability to do so is. Mocking those who do is.
One day I hope to have the courage to stand up and speak truth to power just like the NRO is doing to...

So, fun fact about my grandma. After she passed my dad had to call her union and get them to stop sending her pension checks.
She was a union secretary at a hospital in the city. Retired decades ago. The union still took care of her.
Support unions.
*Cop shoots unarmed black person*
"You don't know what he was going through. He was in fear for his life."
*Cop fails to approach armed white shooter*
"What a pussy. It's his job to risk his life."
I remember sitting in a grape field for 2 hours in 120 degree weather, black on water, rounds going over my head and thinking to myself "thank God I'm not in Chicago right now."
Republicans: I can't believe Democrats are going to rush through impeachment.
Also Republicans: I bet we can confirm a Supreme Court justice in less time than it takes to microwave popcorn.
Not to beat a dead horse about the disability thing, but it’s funny to me when people talk about waste of money.
I crashed two drones worth about $900,000 combined and all I had to do was write a “oops” letter.
That’s the same as a veteran getting 90% disability for 38 years.
Irony is rich people dying in a submarine while trying to visit the graves of hundreds of poor people who died in a ship bc they were locked in the lower levels so rich people could escape on life boats.
Billionaire Hamish Harding is reportedly one of the five people on board the missing submarine that was meant to take tourists down to see the Titanic’s shipwreck.
You're heart is racing, you're sweating, your hands are shaking. You're exhausted. You have to shoot standing up.
I shot at 20 targets. I think I may have hit one. Maybe.
And I'm the supposed "expert" shot.
BREAKING: Army Pvt. Travis King is in US custody after being released from North Korea, a US official tells
@Kevinliptakcnn
. King crossed the demarcation line into North Korea roughly two months ago.
His reward for surviving D-Day was getting to come home, marry my grandmother and fathering four kids, which led to 12 grandkids and soon to be five great grandchildren.
And for this anniversary he gets to be reunited with his wife. I hope they enjoy watching what they built.
I wonder if people realize the war in Afghanistan went on so long it was featured in the first Iron Man where Tony told a soldier taking his photo (with a camera, not a phone), not to put the photo on his Myspace.
And by that point the war had been going on for 7 years already.
