THIS is the issue to watch for, not paying Bo The Broncos have been competitive the last two years with a highly expensive QB room *because* they had a lot of talent on rookie deals Those players have now earned vet extensions, and the draft picks haven’t been replacing them
The Broncos and their front office gets a lot of praise for their ability to draft but if the team is going to be able to maintain a contender when Bo gets expensive, the drafts need to improve from this:

They’ve found two legitimate starters in three drafts? Some other useful players but two starters in three years is tough.

I think they should trade him
The #Broncos are tendering restricted free agent CB Ja’Quan McMillan at the second-round level, as @JFowlerESPN reported. He gets a projected salary of just under $6 million. Two regular-season INTs and one big one against the #Bills in the playoffs help him land a nice tender.

I’d worry about the Broncos trading for Montgomery He’s going to be one of the most expensive options (top-12 RB cap hit + the price of trade), he’s got the 9th-most touches of any active NFL player, and his team was phasing him out of the offense last season

This really got people upset lol. I’d love to know who has access to those rooms and discussions that can confirm that ownership is hands off besides Penner saying they are.
@BroncoAlex3 I think ownership forced him to do it

If Webb is as good as he’s been made to be in the media and he’s THE candidate next year, are you letting him leave to go and take one of the many head coach opportunities that will be offered to him?

O/U 4.5 weeks before fans start complaining about Webb like fans complain about every playcaller ever

Especially with all the talk about how the run game needs to improve, what does Davis Webb provide there? All of his playing experience is at QB and he’s only ever coached QBs.

Well, the Super Bowl window is in the hands of a guy who’s been coaching in the NFL for three years, never called plays before, and has zero experience with anything to do with the ground game. I guess we’ll see man idk.

Option A: Webb is great, gets a HC job, you’re hiring a new playcaller next year Option B: Webb is a downgrade, the offense declines. he doesn’t get HC looks and this was all a waste of time hurting the team in the process

This team was a QB injury away from the Super Bowl, I truly don't get the desire to see Sean give up playcalling.
Sean Payton speaks to the media today at the combine and will finally be asked about play calling. Will he dodge the question? (Probably) Sean needs to trust Davis Webb with the play sheet. Handing over the keys isn't weakness… it's the smartest move this franchise could make

Comments are upset about this and I get it, the easiest thing to root for always is to go sign the biggest and most expensive players at every position. That’s also a strategy that typically goes horribly. Giving out big contracts to B tier players is not what we need.
I think it’d be a big mistake for Denver to spend top of the market at the RB position this off-season.

I highly doubt he'd be that cheap but should be extended ASAP if so.
PROJECTION: Denver #Broncos cornerback Riley Moss is projected to sign a three-year, $41 MILLION deal this offseason. This is an average annual value of $13.6 million. Moss is 25 years old who was targeted heavily last season and is one of the most aggressive defensive backs.
