HT exclusive - A 10 km overhead network of cables has completely been shifted underground in north Delhi's Shalimar Bagh. No outages report since the pilot was completely in October. Only road repair work pending now.

Read how farmers in Punjab and Haryana are delaying burning paddy residue after 3 pm - so satellite captures - typically between 10:30 am and 1:30 pm are avoided. Official farm fire count would be higher. Good news - total burnt area is reducing though.

In Sangam Vihar, tucked in South Delhi’s labyrinth of narrow lanes, another craft thrives quietly: glass bead jewellery. 100s of artisans work from small homes or shared centres, making everything from bags and bangles to hair accessories. Each item takes several days to complete

At Seelampur, families still rely on the tradition of hand-carving wood, meaning the furniture takes thriceas long to make as machine-crafted furniture. Mohd Matloob, who has been doing this for 4 decades says the craft survives as people still appreciate the intricacy involved.

Kehar Singh (30) is a third generation learner in the family. Most pottery families moved to Uttam Nagar in the 1970s and 80s, but the area only began gaining popularity for its work from 90s onwards. Most still rely on a word-of-mouth basis for sales. Say GI tag will be a boost.

The capital so far does not have a unique GI tag - but the Delhi government has started the process to get Delhi 3 such unique tags - Uttam Nagar's terracotta, glass bead jewellery from Sangam Vihar and Seelampur's woodcraft.
