One of the last chapters of my PhD thesis has finally been published! Eocene–Oligocene temperature estimates from the lower mixed-layer and thermocline show cooling and hint at increased stratification and AMOC onset: https://t.co/WZD2KiZgri

Very interesting talk by @Japhir on how useful #palaeoceanography is in constraining key #climate metrics used by @IPCC_CH 🐚📈🌡️

@UUClumpIsotopes Great to share this when my collaborator @Robin_vd_Ploeg just got chapter 3 published!
New paper! The paleoclimate swan song of my PhD studies at @UUEarthSciences @UUGeo @NESSCresearch is now out in @ScienceAdvances - read along for coupled seawater temperature and salinity reconstructions in the North Atlantic during the middle Eocene!

I'm grateful to my PI and supervisor, @UUClumpIsotopes, copromotor Inigo Müller, and promotor Luc Lourens, the reading committee and everybody else who helped me put this work together <3

The thesis will be available in half a year https://t.co/wMoK9kjfYi so that I can try to wrap up some papers, but if you're interested just send me a PM or email and I'll gladly send it to you! I have a few paper copies of the book available, but I can easily send the PDF!

Migrating to #Mastodon has been very nice so far! @japhir@fediscience.org. If you're in #earthsciences You can add yourself to https://t.co/xfdHE23CM2 to opt-in to finding colleagues :). Oh and since there is no algorithmic sorting, follow relevant hashtags directly!

‘You have inspired me to take non-violent direct action with Extinction Rebellion,’ said rebel @csschilder to @GeorgeMonbiot. ‘Can you help me inspire other people to join us?’ His answer was definitely inspiring! So don't hesitate. The time for action is NOW.🔥

This was one of the questions I wish I had asked the palaeoclimate community after the recap of the science in the IPCC presented by @ClimateSamwell at the #ICP14 What are your thoughts?
A Comment article in @NatureClimate asks when does civil disobedience by scientists on climate change issues become justified. https://t.co/lvXNFizOhv

I'm very proud of the army of MSc and BSc-students who've enabled us to generate so much data, with lab contributions from @ClumpyTobias and others (not on Twitter) under the supervision of @UUClumpIsotopes

Did we have rapid fluxes in the composition of the sea water or are there perhaps other processes that influence the oxygen isotopes of the calcite?

Yesterday I presented our unpublished clumped isotope record of deep ocean temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean across the late Cenozoic to the #ICP14. We think our warm bottom water Ts reflect a true and global warm signal, but inferred δ18Osw change is puzzling.

This article on unknowability in climate models explains that the main sources of uncertainty are 1 chaos in the climate system 2 structural uncertainty in the models and 3 human behaviour. But most importantly unknown unknowns as we shift to never-before seen climate states.

Deep sea temperatures over the past 65 million years were much warmer than previously thought! This is important - with potential implications for our understanding of Earth System Sensitivity. Led by Nele Meckler @BjerknesBCCR, happy to be part of the team!
