As a teacher and a union leader, I’ve fought for fair wages, safe workplaces, and better schools. But too many working families are being squeezed: by high costs at the grocery store, by tariffs that punish our farmers, and by politicians who put billionaires ahead of us.

Labor Day has always been an important day for my family. My dad worked as a garbage man and insulation installer, while my mom read meters — and now works as a nurse. We might not have had much growing up, but I couldn’t have been prouder of them and the example they set.

Yesterday: another school shooting. Today: kids in my classroom practice hiding from a gunman. This is what “back to school” means now. And it’s breaking our kids and our communities.

I’m praying for the victims of this morning’s school shooting in the Twin Cities, and I'm mourning for the families who lost their children today. This is every teacher's and every parent's worst nightmare. Grateful for the police officers and first responders who are.

I recently had the privilege of meeting Tim Sullivan, the Executive Director of Farm Rescue. When a farmer is injured or falls sick, @FarmRescueOrg helps them plant and harvest. They’ve helped 1,000+ farm families in crisis so far, and it’s the best of rural America in action.

Red Wing showed up big last night — over 100 neighbors coming together to talk about how we can build a better future for southern Minnesota. The energy is real, and it's how we're going to win this race.
