Separately, we ask that USAU commits to supporting the basic rights of your player base by taking a public stance against SB 8. It would be unacceptable for our community to leave this issue unaddressed. (13/?)

If you do not move the location of the tournament to an area where the healthcare system could reasonably look after our players should an incident happen, we will regrettably decline our bid to the tournament. (12/?)

While playing ultimate frisbee is fun and a sport we are all passionate about, it should not precede prioritizing the health and safety of players and those in the community that we would be entering. (11/?)

We want to compete, however we can’t not be negligent and ignore the reality of the situation. USAU sets the example for the ultimate frisbee community at large. (10/?)

However, after examining the factors we’ve outlined above, our team has that decided that the decision to confirm the location of regionals in Austin was irresponsible, as would be our participation. (9/?)

And lastly, we know that many of your staff are volunteers, and that the logistics of reorganizing a tournament two weeks out would require a large amount of time and effort from your organization. (8/?)

We also understand that it is unfair to unduly shift the financial burden to teams that currently live in high-risk areas by moving the tournament. (7/?)

We understand that other regions in the country are facing similar COVID-related location problems and that simply moving locations is not a perfect solution. Having players travel increases the aggregate risk level of the event regardless of where they are coming from. (6/?)

By hosting a tournament in this state without even so much as acknowledging TX SB8, USAU sends a message that they are complicit in this issue. (5/?)

Additionally, we are unwilling to economically support a state government that has essentially eradicated a women’s right to choose. Taking away a person’s access to safe abortion is a violation of basic human rights. (4/?)

By participating in this event, we have the potential to further burden an already stressed healthcare system. Given these cocktails, hosting a ultimate frisbee tournament in a state that is currently overwhelmed by COVID cases feels both selfish and irresponsible. (3/?)

You have told us that you are monitoring the COVID situation, but we do not feel comfortable traveling to an area where COVID cases continue to surge and there are less than 10 ICU beds available to participate in an inessential activity. (2/?)

USAU has made the difficult decision to cancel all of the 2020 season. We’re incredibly sad that we won’t have the chance to play with you all this season, but we understand that safety must come first and fully support the decision USAU has made.
