During ADR there are moments where I’m shown an animatic (drawings of the scene that give an idea of what it’s supposed to be) or sometimes I have to match the fully animated “lip flap” (yes that’s what the call it) of my character. (3/4)

Then much later I come in to do additional dialogue recording or ADR. This time, I’m trying to match what the animators did. I have a lot less wiggle room here but usually the animation isn’t LOCKED into place so I have some space to play. (2/4)

Not a stupid question at all! I had the same question before I did VO. Usually I start by recording my dialogue prior to them animating it. You have a ton of freedom in that stage to do whatever you want and the animators can animate to your performance if they choose. (1/4)
@JackQuaid92 Maybe a stupid question but with these kind of voice overs, do you have to nail the timing of the already animated mouth movements or is there some wiggle room cause the animators can do parts of it afterwards? Oh and of course.... LOWER DECKS, LOWER DECKS.
