These two little bones so far are the only direct evidence these animals were in Nevada. The recent news is an interesting genetics experiment but not quite yet a dire wolf.

With the excitement over the “resurrection” of dire wolves (Aenocyon dirus) I thought it would be fun to take a trip down memory lane. A decade ago we reported the 1st bone of these animals from Nevada from Ice Age Fossils State Park. Eric Scott soon reported another.

Happy #FossilFriday! Continuing April Nevada Paleontological Awareness Month. This is the trilobite Nevadia sp., from the Poleta Formation of Esmeralda County, Nevada. This specimen is roughly 520 million years old. Trilobites are an extinct group of bottom-dwelling arthropods.
