Residents of predominantly Black neighborhoods have considerably lower average net worth than residents of predominantly white neighborhoods — among many other systemic inequities. (2/4).

St. Louis is a region filled with brilliance, creativity, and strength. But for decades, racial segregation and economic disparities have placed unjust limits on many opportunities. (1/4).

@CharliCooksey, WEPOWER CEO, said: “When we invest in the systems that care for our children, we are investing in creating a prosperous region. Early childhood systems change is a moral and economic imperative for our region.” (4/4).

The ultimate aim of the funded WEPOWER project is to deliver sustainable, high-quality early childhood education with a seat for every child in our region who needs one, and to ensure that all St. Louisans have access to quality child care. (3/4).

WEPOWER conducts research, training, & community dev to improve the region’s early childhood education landscape—& JSMF understands that ECE programming is not only critical for parents in today’s workforce, but also essential for the next gen’s long-term economic mobility. (2/4).

JSMF is pleased to announce a recent grant of $637,000 to @wepower_stl and its mission-aligned partners. (1/4).

"Economic mobility & inclusive economic growth aren't going to happen on autopilot," said JSMF Pres. Jason Purnell. "This investment is a down payment on the infrastructure needed to make sure people have opportunities to succeed, & that the region succeeds as a result." (3/4).

The JSMF grant will support students within the engineering school by funding scholarships. Additionally, UMSL’s pre-collegiate Bridge Program will receive a $1 million endowment to support STEM college readiness programs that prepare students for engineering degrees. (2/4).

In keeping with our commitment to fostering a more equitable and prosperous St. Louis region, the James S. McDonnell Foundation has awarded an $8 million grant to @umsl to help fund the university's new School of Engineering. (1/4).
