The adjourned at nearly an hour after that, and many of the bus drivers in attendance approached the Board and King to thank them.

Up next is the "Art in the Dark" presentation. This is when Greg Hammond earns his pay. I wasn't able to be at this event, but it looks like a good time was had by all at Malesus STEM Center.

It's worth noting that seven of nine members of the Board have spoken during this discussion. One of the two that haven't is Debbie Gaugh. The reason I mention that is she's the chair of the transportation committee, where all this originated from beforehand.

Andre Darnell now speaks. "It's our job to adopt the budget and manage it. And when Board members start looking at how much people in the Central Office and teachers and others make, that's stepping out of our role."

There will be a committee looking closer at this issue going forward, and Compton urges for some members of that committee be actual bus drivers.

Jason Compton explains how the "mistake" was made last month because they thought giving a raise for a 30-hour schedule and taking away the stipends was increasing their bottom line each week/month. But apparently not.

Andrea Michelle Givens-Moore now speaks. She reads the Board's role in District policy. It's setting policy in line with the community's values, establishing structure with district's vision, support for superintendent and staff, ensuring accountability, advocate for the district

That depends on the majority to vote this motion down. We need more time and more study.

Gaugh hadn't been notified before the meeting of this discussion. He favors the delay of implementation at least through the end of the year. But he has serious questions the Board can't neglect to look at.

Barnes motions to rescind. Darnell seconds. Gaugh is appreciative of bus drivers and it's unfortunate this situation exists. He questions if it's ethical or legal to make a base salary plus stipend within hours employees are expected to work.

Thomas has a ruling. Two-third majority or vote of the entire majority of the voting body - which would be five. Whichever is smaller at the time. With everyone here, they just need five votes and not six.

While attorney Dale Thomas looks for the ruling, Walden speaks to the drivers and thanks them for their service and says they want to do what's best for them and thought they were doing so in October.

"This is an instance where we need to listen because without stipend a lot of children will be getting home late. It's happening now because of the stipend being taken away." - Johnson

While they wait, Pete Johnson that all employees have the right to come to whomever they need to so they could be heard.
