#HappyHalloween Did you know that fire & brimstone are associated with traditional tales of hell & witchcraft? Also known as sulphur it is associated with the Earths ‘underworld’ well expressed in the fiery openings of volcanoes – are seen as the gateways to hell #MineralMonday

The caverns at @DCTTrips never fail to amaze! During JPB's annual cavern inspection, we saw the Golden Fleece (Pictured below). It is a chemical precipitate known as tufa, formed when calcium carbonate comes out of solution and is deposited on the walls of the limestone caverns.

JPB attended the Contamination Expo Series 2019 over the past 2 days. The event was excellent and included many interesting and informative talks and stalls and provided a great networking opportunity for everyone involved. We look forward to attending next year! #Contam19

Amazing what you can find in 300 million year old #CoalMeasures rocks from the Upper Carboniferous! This prehistoric plant called Alethopteris belongs to the Pteridosperm seed ferns now extinct #Fossil shows the frond which is recognisable in today’s plants on earth #FossilFriday

Predatory fish can lose their teeth in the action of grabbing and fighting with their prey. Sometimes these loose teeth become fossils like this one found in the black shales of the Coal Measures rocks at Dibdale near Dudley in the West Midlands.

July is #BlackCountryMonth. Named because the intense mining of the coalfield removed the green from the land piled black coal on it & covered the landscape with dark smoke and smoldering furnace wastes. Coal was the mineral behind that transformation. #MineralMonday

This week JPB had a geological walk and talk around Wrens Nest National Nature Reserve. From Silurian coral reefs, fossils and storm deposits we learnt so much during Graham Worton's tour. It also made us proud to work in an area of such interesting and diverse geology! #Geology
