Companies buy data. Governments do too. Thank you to @ByronTau for reaching out to help explore the important subject of public sector licensing of commercially available datasets. https://t.co/pT17tT0Lam

Commercial data brokers are providing the government with personal information that might otherwise require search warrants. Should that be allowed?

The implementation of the White House's Executive Order has completely missed it's originally intended target. The "countries of concern" all pose geopolitical threats, but they are not the countries where American's consumer data is exploited. https://t.co/mZ57ZDaHKm

Lost in 2023's headlines is the recent proliferation of Ads vs No-Ads tier based pricing. The most notable developments are in #streaming, #journalism, and #socialmedia. We should expect this trend to quickly expand into other markets. #privacy

European users would have the option to pay a fee or agree to personalized ads, according to the company’s pitch to regulators.

We need to talk about this more. The well-intentioned goals of #privacy laws to place extra protections on data from marginalized groups is on a collision course with the competing need to engage with diverse audiences online. #ccpa #cpra #gdpr #adppa

The ongoing data privacy push by states is colliding with the diversifying U.S. electorate and data budgets could be the collateral damage.

It was a pleasure to be quoted in last week’s article on location data privacy in https://t.co/moYAGntXqx. The mobility analytics industry doesn’t get nearly the credit it deserves for deploying sector-specific privacy-by-design controls. https://t.co/432Nr52vzX

The bill just assumes what’s good for some kids is good for all kids,” Huge psychological assumptions like these have no business in data privacy bills/laws. Broad brush strokes will always steamroll those at the margins. #privacy #adppa #ccpa #gdpr

Critics say the bills will make the internet less safe for kids by increasing digital surveillance and reducing access to encrypted services.

Most folks agree for the #FTC to successfully pursue #privacy #rulemaking it must avoid the #majorquestionsdoctrine - which basically holds that agencies need clear Congressional authority before doing something. Last week’s decision RE student loans puts that in jeapordy.

#Congress isn’t serious about passing a federal #privacy law. This morning the E&C Committee will be having a hearing on #databrokers. Regrettably, all data brokers have been prohibited from testifying. Failure to engage industry will lead to bad bills that won’t pass #adppa
