This is only the 7th time in the 31-year history of the franchise that the Raptors have opened the season on the road, and first time since 2011. Their home opener is Oct. 24 vs Milwaukee.

Bit of a disappointing turnout, with only 2 current NBA players on the roster. The core vets were never expected to play this summer but hope was to get more of the younger guys (Sharpe/Mathurin/etc) some reps. Nice to get a longer look at George/Miller. Good opportunity for them.

Canada Basketball announced a 14-man camp roster for this summer, which features NBAers Kyshawn George and Leonard Miller + some vets of the program. They’ll train in Toronto this week before playing exhibition games in Miami & travelling to Nicaragua for the AmeriCup in late Aug

The influx of Canadian basketball talent has been covered at length in recent years, and justifiably so, but it doesn't just apply to the players. This deep, diverse, experienced and almost exclusively Canadian staff represents that incredible growth at the coaching level.
After disappointing in the 24 Olympics, GM Rowan Barrett and Canada have completely overhauled the coaching staff, making it almost entirely Canadian. This matters bc it's a mix of NBA, overseas, and grassroots coaches who care a lot, are in the gym, and know the player pool.

An impressive group. Of the 10 coaches named to Canada's pool today, 8 have FIBA coaching experience, 7 have G League coaching experience, 5 have NBA coaching experience, and notably, 9 are Canadian. Only 1 of the 3 coaches that represented them in Paris last summer was from 🇨🇦.

Due to contractual obligations, Herbert is unable to assume full bench duties until next summer, hence the large group. Assignments for each window/tourney will be announced based on roster makeup and availability. Mitchell will serve as HC at the AmeriCup in Nicaragua this month.

Canada Basketball has announced its pool of coaches for this Olympic cycle, running through to LA 2028: Gordie Herbert (head coach), Jama Mahlalela, Scott Morrison, Nathaniel Mitchell, Matt Gray, JD Jackson, Hanno Möttölä, Ashton Smith, Shawn Swords, Patrick Tatham.
