The visit concluded at the Applied Research Center with Newport News @MayorPhilJones. The city donated the 122,000-sq-ft building to @ENERGY in 2023. It is part of a $90.3M renovation and expansion project, the first at Jefferson Lab with delegated project authority.

This afternoon, @ENERGY Secretary Chris Wright visited Jefferson Lab’s Test Lab and UITF. He saw how our superconducting radiofrequency program tests more cryomodules than any other facility in the world and discussed commercialization of lab technology with industry partners.

A quarter century ago, our operators skillfully pushed the boundaries of SRF technology - teasing out 6.07 GeV electron beams from a 4 GeV design. Those 50% higher-energy beams set the stage for CEBAF's 12 GeV upgrade, opening new quantum realms for exploration!

On this day more than 30 years ago, Jefferson Lab delivered its first continuous electron beams to an experimental hall target! . On July 24, 1994, at 4:45 p.m., electrons pinged a beryllium oxide target in Hall C. This Polaroid shows some of the first beam on target in CEBAF!
