We need to bring back DEAR time in schools. Drop EVERYTHING And Read. If we did this, I truly believe we would have stronger readers... & kids who develop a love for reading again. Let them read for enjoyment… without an exit ticket… without a product due at the end. Just read.

ECR writing model followed by the students killing it at writing their own ECR. We still have lots of work to do, but we have a lot of time to do it! So impressed with these kids tackling ECR on a Monday morning! Go little rockstars!

After teaching the most energetic compound sentences lesson of my life, I had my students take over & “be like me” while they labelled some compound sentences… this kid NAILED his impression of me. 😂 We discussed helper verbs and “verb phrases” in compound sentences today.

One of my students read Scare School today and said “this is the best book I’ve ever read”… @Jarrett_Lerner 🥹

Today we learned about 9/11 & the heroes of that day. One of those included Welles Crowther, “the man in the red bandana”… students then wrote what a hero is & who their heroes are… a lot of our 5th graders see our @RooseveltDLA “Officer JD” as a hero! @EISDPDofSA

Start of the year teacher life is not knowing if you’re getting sick or just so tired that your body is shutting down a little bit… the body aches are rough. Send good vibes… and maybe Tylenol.

Go little rockstar ✨ I have my awesome clinical teacher back for this semester, and then she will be off on her own!! Proud of her for jumping in week one and taking on some reading lessons!

Vocabulary routine teaching day. Students worked in groups to research their word, define it, illustrate it, and then teach it to the class. Now they’re up on our module wall as we kick off our first @HMHCo story.

Got to know my new classes today using Play-Doh. The excitement on their faces when they got to sculpt their favorite subjects, animals, and foods was awesome. 5th graders only get to “be little” a few days a year, and today was one of those days!

Finished another banner… this one for @RooseveltDLA! Have to tidy up lines once it dries… I don’t know how I managed to paint the falcon, but I’m happy with how it turned out!

Started painting banners because it looked fun. I still have to do touch ups, finish outlines, and put finishing touches on them… but I’m pretty happy with how they turned out! 😊

Asking our @RooseveltDLA staff what they’re teaching on the last day of school. Ps: the last day was for hanging out with our students. No instructional time was harmed in the making of this video or in their responses 😂

Many days I question why I continue being a teacher… and then I sob in the hallway with my 5th graders on their last day of school.

For our “Dragons Love Tacos” Literacy Night, 5th grade made “dragon snot” (slime)… it was a blast! I was also very proud of my sign featuring a sneezing dragon.
