I have given in, driven by plan S, I have decided to join twitter. My problem is I have too many opinions. I will hopefully restrict myself to science.

Lord Winston took his time with each one & his modesty also was inspiring too. Science does change lives for the better. The overlooking of Jean Purdy by science and medicine, I hope will now righted.

I had honour at @univofstandrews hon grad of Lord Winston & watch parents of new graduates thanking him. Very moving memory; tearful mothers seizing the moment to express to him what his work meant to them, fathers too, some a reticent step behind, trying to hide emotions

I watched “Joy” https://t.co/MzcvCzskUr. It is hard today to even understand the then strong opposition to even trying. The emotional pain that some women (& men) feel around infertility was in part alleviated by this ground breaking work.

He and his wife, Elspeth, seemed a very devoted couple. She was a hoot, the daughter of the real life General Urquart. (Sean Connery Bridge Too Far)

There was nothing old fashioned about Ming except his courtesy (and maybe neatness). He was passionate in his politics but made friends across divides. I am proud to say I campaigned for him in every election I was at St Andrews.

I am so sad to hear of the death of Menzies Campbell, aka Ming. I got to know him in 1995, he was a gem of a person in every way and deeply admirable.

Well we got hammered, but the last minute try was a well deserved consolation. My eyes tricked me as I thought there had been a knock on and was putting my head in my hands, but stopped to see Rhonda Lloyd touch down.

Went on the @WorthValley steam train to Brontë country. Boarded at Keighley, marvelled at the magnificent steam engine & reflected that the uk was still building them as others were electrifying

These are the marvellous doors of the Piece Hall in Halifax. The doors were made in Glasgow.

Well worth reading. Another thoughtful and insightful analysis. Required reading in Universities & govt.
UK Universities are under huge financial pressure - should they step back from their role in their communities? In this blogpost I argue this would be a big mistake, and instead they should take even more seriously their role supporting regional economies https://t.co/1VDdLdyZvf

Bayeux has the largest WW2 UK & commonwealth cemetery; around 5000 graves in France. There are allied Polish graves here too. Unusually, there are just 500 German graves here buried by the UK authorities.
