Aye man but guess what. I’d choose it all again. I love this job, but have some perspective. We are downstairs keeping everything else from falling apart and taking the hits. I love my EM squad!

Let’s add on as stated many times before terrible staffing ratios and being assaulted, cussed, and spit at in the ED. Let’s not forget pts calling me “Nigger” every now and then cuz they had to wait while I was intubating someone critical.

You think we can just go home with those notes unfinished? Intern year I was staying 4 hrs after shift routinely to get those done. I promise we ain’t consulting cuz we’re lazy, but we are trying to help the pt.

Also ima just say it. Tired of the old emergency medicine take. You only work X hours. Man…we’re seeing 20+ new pts at academic centers and taking sign out on ICU level pts that we have to take care of while they’re boarding. Placing critical lines and intubating them.

STEMI we sent from our non cath facility to our cath capable facility. Pt walked in the door with mild CP. h/o diabetes/htn. Intervention went great. Where was the area of blockage? Would you get another EKG?

Lessons: embrace those who hold you to a higher standards. I know I’ll be overly grateful when it’s all said and done.
