Settled into seat 1A on my “Rolls Royce” of Diesel locos - the Class 60(055) at Wembley ready to head north in about an hours time into the night. 24 empty wagons heading for North Wales to be loaded with stone and return to London.

I’m in @wetherspoons pubs more often now for a reason. I see a lot of older folks having a coffee with free refills, reasonably priced food and just now I watched an elderly gentleman buy himself a pint of IPA for £1.89. Tim can do it, so why can’t the other big chains? #robbery

A little moment of reflection. I’ll be 60 in three years yet I don’t feel much different (mentally) from when I was 30 and a generation ago, a man at 60 was considered an “old man”. I may look that way but I certainly don’t feel it.

The 15th type of Diesel-Electric loco that I’ve been trained on. 35 years old and still doing the business, the mighty Class 60. It has a 3100hp Mirlees Blackstone power plant that is unusual in that it is a straight 8 with a whopping cylinder diameter of 275mm!!
