You can have all the education. You can be "right" about everything. But until you organize with real people in real communities, and engage with all the complexities - you'll never fully understand our people's needs and how to effectively fulfill them.

Police have murdered Black ppl in America with few repercussions since the beginning. Meet Walter Francis White. He was a Black man with blond hair and blue eyes, parents born into slavery. In 1920, he used his lightskin to infiltrate KKK meetings. Guess who was there?

When he was sworn in as sheriff’s deputy, Walter Francis White was told, “Now you can go kill any Negro you see and the law will be behind you.” Even with 10 yrs worth of evidence with photos, covering 41 lynchings and 8 race riots - there were no convictions.

The “Africans sold us narrative” ignores the complexities of an extremely diverse continent. The fact that we can understand the various European wars, conflicts, histories, and political agendas but for some reason can’t comprehend this when it comes to Africa is dehumanizing.

First, it’s flawed because it reduces hundreds of different African kingdoms and ethnicities to “one group” and makes it seem like they all rounded us up and waved bye bye at the shores. People lost their families. People were taking over ships and setting folks free.

Almost everywhere on Earth had slavery for thousands of years and some places still do. The drive to end slavery on a worldwide basis was spearheaded by Britain in the early 1800’s. .

Normalize Black oral history. Many of our ancestors were shut out from the systems that publish books & articles used as sources. There is knowledge & wisdom outside of those pages that our elders possess as living libraries. Respect their words. Listen to them, learn from them.

Also, there are still descendants of enslaved Africans living on the continent. So how are the enslaved still on the continent also selling us? This history is complex but I don’t blame folks for the confusion bc we certainly were not taught most of this in schools…on purpose.

Sigh. Internalized afrophobia has ppl twisting and turning, searching for any glimmer of hope to not be of African descent. Our ancestors purchased land and it was taken away due to racism. That’s it. Regardless of how much land we owned or didn’t own, we still came from Africa.

@Omalicha_Ego Maybe there is a misunderstanding. What I’m saying is referring to the comment on Nigerian spirituality as if the borders determine the existence of the ethnic groups and not acknowledging them predating the borders and the fact that descendants exist around the world.

Resist pipe dreams, conspiracy theories, and divisive internet “influencers.” They feed you lies and make money from your emotions. They will get you no where.

Black people, sometimes we believe the worst lies about ourselves and denigrate our own history. Christianity is not more civilized than African traditional religions. Millions of African ppl on the continent and throughout the Diaspora were killed under Christian-led oppression.

Lmaoo My ancestors were savages that spared no one. Not even their in-laws. Anyone who crossed them was beheaded. It's literally in our oriki. Why would I want to look like whatever God sponsored such wickedness? You think Osun is all love and light and Yemoja is all smiles?

Part of the continued harms of chattel slavery is making us think we’re not good enough, like we have to prove our value, our uniqueness - like we have to show America how “special” we are. But I promise we don’t have to. We don’t have to be Super Negros™️ in order to matter.

They pushing this same xenophobic mess with ADOS/FBA. We’ve been through 400 yrs of chattel slavery, Jim Crow, and institutional racism but they’re convinced Black immigrants (the smallest group of immigrants allowed in America) are the problem. Smh

The Diaspora deserves safe spaces for much needed intercommunity conversations. Unfortunately, Twitter will never be that space.

The YT savior complex to revisionist history pipeline is a helluva drug. How do you “wage a war against slavery” while still enslaving ppl, colonizing, stealing land, torturing ppl, taking their resources and putting them in concentration camps?

When Great Britain waged war against slavery despite it being the global norm. A thread 🧵🇬🇧 The uncomfortable truth is that the great evil of slavery, practised across all cultures, races and continents, was universal across history. (Sources are cited at the end.)

@TheeAuthoress @Instacart Nah they sent two 30 count boxes though. So 60 pouches. Way more than enough. I’m glad it wasn’t actually 35 boxes. Lol

I watched a video where a Black woman claimed to be “American Indian” and completely denied her African ancestry. Yet she wants reparations, while also denying the genocide of Native American and African people. This is where we are right now with Black history in digital spaces.

This is a beautiful thread on appreciating Black American culture. Turn this up! I just want to add that Afro-Caribbean ppl were also part of the Harlem Renaissance, Civil Rights, & Black Power Movements. They were in smaller numbers but they were there. Pan African solidarity ✊🏾

As a first generation Haitian- American I hate seeing black American slander. Black American culture is one of the most copied & influential cultures on the planet. And other black immigrants living in the U.S should recognize we were not marching on the front lines here
