Our Rule 13 Intern, Jacob Leamon, secured a 10-year sentence for Larome Harley, convicted of a vehicle hijacking that occurred in Feb. 2024. He delivered an outstanding argument that balanced accountability with respect for all involved, the defendant, victim, and community.

CASE UPDATE: Today, Mikael Hickman-Perry was sentenced to 13 years for 2nd Degree Murder and 3 years for Armed Criminal Action. The sentences will run consecutively for a total of 16 years.

Over the weekend, our office faced the Public Defender’s Office in another annual softball Justice Cup game ⚾️. It’s always amazing to come together and get to know each other better outside the courtroom.

Today, Craig S. Liggins was sentenced to 18 years in prison for a shooting from 2023 that left three people injured. In May, a jury convicted him of three counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, six counts of Armed Criminal Action, and three counts of 1st Degree Assault.

Our office charged Ivory J. Bridgewater this week for a shooting that took place in Waldo on Monday. The victim is in critical, but stable condition. The defendant faces 1st Degree Assault and Armed Criminal Action. If convicted, he could face life in prison.

Our office charged a man today in connection with a fatal shooting that took place in Kansas City’s northeast neighborhood last month. Hajji McDonald III faces 2nd Degree Murder/Felony Murder and Attempted Stealing. 🔗

Today marks the last day for our summer law and victim advocate interns, and I couldn’t be more proud of their dedication, compassion, and professionalism during their time in our office.

Our office charged Lee W. Burks with 2nd Degree Murder and four additional felony charges for a fatal shooting that took place near East 18th Street and Benton Boulevard on Sunday. The defendant is being held without bond. 🔗

We will never tolerate these kinds of crimes and pursuing anyone who preys on businesses, whether from the outside or within, remains one of our top priorities.

A jury convicted Kristen N. Cannon with one count of Stealing after she was connected to stealing more than $18,000 from her employer, using a business card for personal expenses. She could face up to 7 years in prison.

We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Deputy Elijah Ming, who made the ultimate sacrifice serving his community. His service will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with Deputy Ming’s family, friends, and the women and men at the WyCo Sheriff’s Office.
