i let go of what i thought made me happy and it left me empty, but now there’s space for real happiness.

Naomi Osaka did an interview and said when she wins she feels more “relieved” than “happy”. And that’s how I feel as of late, I’m always “relieved” to get promoted, or to get a good grade or do well. It’s like “whew, glad that’s over” instead of “I’m proud of myself”.

i wanted to write about remembering nothing, but the hard you put in and how that feels like nothing sometimes. i wanted to write about my father. i wanted to understand him better.

i wanted to write about being too ashamed to admit that you’re broke and breaking, day after day. i wanted to write about what it’s like to keep up with the appearance of things, because sometimes it’s easier if no one else knows how tough things are.
