this is so crazy. Charles Allen is right. why on earth would dc, amid a looming recession and all out federal war on the city, want to focus their attention on tearing down the cool outdoor dining spaces along 18th street? it’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.
Streatery permitting was initially free under the emergency conditions of the pandemic. Now, on top of a $260 permit fee, restaurant owners will have to pay $20 per square foot annually—as much as $24,000 for some streateries. https://t.co/g0LPaoHcgt

The next space race will be won at night

The first space race was about getting to the moon. Today’s race to the moon and Mars is about staying there.

NASA needs to prioritize deployment of nuclear energy technologies this decade. Without it, American missions will continue to last days instead of years. Great to work with our commercial space partners on this oped.

Get to know @zeno_power: Interview with co-founder and CEO Tyler Bernstein on the Nuclear Barbarians Podcast: "Seafloor, Icecap, Moon"

Zeno Power, a cutting edge nuclear company, is making batteries powered with Strontium 90 for niche deployment cases: the moon, the arctic, and the seafloor.

D.C. officials would probably welcome and support Trump focusing on fixing up federal sites and properties in the city. I mention it a lot, but the Meridian Hill Park Fountain is emblematic of how the federal government and Congress have failed D.C., not the other way around.

Big deal if it sticks: Copper on the USGS critical minerals list means US copper projects could finally get streamlined permitting under FAST-41.

DOE’s new study on catalyzing American space nuclear technology offers a clear-eyed blueprint for executing U.S. industrial policy more broadly.

The use of a CFD for the price floor is particularly interesting, cool, and risky? Finding a fair strike price is really hard when there isn’t a transparent, competitive, and liquid market to base it off of. https://t.co/1lw6Kib450
The structure of the price floor is a contract-for-difference, between the price floor and the "market price." I think the use of CFDs is very risky given that the "market price" is something that can so easily be manipulated.

Agreed. This is a major deal for critical minerals & US industrial policy In a single transaction, DOD leveraged a suite of financial tools to derisk both supply and demand sides of US rare earth production. It’s a comprehensive approach rather than the usual piecemeal strategy.
THIS IS A BIG DEAL. It's many industrial policy financing tools in one transaction: preferred equity purchases, warrants, lending, and a price floor. And a staggering amount of money. But a few initial thoughts. 🧵🧵🧵

All the articles portraying California's CEQA rollback as a blow to environmentalism inspired me to look for egregious examples of how CEQA has been weaponized to stall/block housing development. Here are 10 crazy cases I found. 🧵

It was inevitable had either party won unified control in November that they'd punt on Manchin/Barasso and try permitting reform alone this year, despite almost certainty of being axed by the parliamentarian. Now we're there. It's time for serious, bipartisan permitting reform.
Sen. Cramer tells me on parls repeated rulings against permitting provisions in ENR and EPW titles: “I’m not surprised. It was a worthwhile stretch. We’ve got to find a path on permitting” that is bipartisan outside reconciliation, pairing transmission and pipeline reforms

Wow. @SecretaryWright calls LPO “critical, “the most efficient tool we have” and says he’s “making a plea” with Congress not to gut its credit subsidy in reconciliation. Huge. Now where is Congress?

Idea: Take all our spent nuclear fuel and use it To make more nuclear fuel To lock in energy security and energy dominance My pitch for a Trump EO at @amconmag

If the Trump administration is serious about energizing the American Golden Age, there’s an obvious path forward.

Taiwan shut down its last nuclear reactor. To compensate for the loss of electricity, it has added 5 gigawatts of gas-fired capacity. Electricity costs on the island are expected to rise. https://t.co/cKjP2euD0x
