Imam Ahmad wrote a letter to Ibn al-Madini requesting that he encourage his companions to mobilize to Ardabil in defence of its inhabitants from the neo-Zoroastrian insurrection of Babak Al-Khurrami, which threatened the city. He also wrote a letter to Abu al-Walid.
A very interesting Persian manuscript: "Afshin and Babak arriving at Samarra". Safavid period, 16th century AD. From the "Tarikhnama of Muhammad Bal'ami", the 10th century Samanid vizier. Both Afshin (Sogdian) and Babak (Persian) were notorious anti-Abbasid rebels.
