Orazem: IA has had a problem with attracting immigrants for many years because we don't have many large firms. H1B visas. We are at a disadvantage here in Iowa. Larger companies are more successful at getting those visas.

Orazem: Big problem for manufacturing is labor and not capitol. Durable and non-durable growth, Iowa is lagging. A lot of retrenchment in food production and meat. New companies try to take advantage of closed plants still faces low labor rate.

Hart: Big challenges for Ag economy - already struggling - do you increase the burden on agriculture. Ag land is holding its value but do farmers have assets available. Farmers asset rich and cash poor.

Orazem: Property taxes are more painful for startups. Iowa does poorly on start ups. New companies have to pay property tax even if not operating. State limits local gov on amount of taxes.
