A few shots from the last plenary session of a productive mandate. I'm convinced that our work will contribute to a better, safer, and more prosperous Union. I’m a firm believer in the European project that protects our rights and values, and I'll continue working to improve it.

The EU must continue supporting Ukraine in its war against the Russian aggressors, as the result of the war will have long-lasting repercussions for the entire region. Good must prevails against evil, and we must help those who are fighting to protect the values that we share.

The event also marked the weeklong donation period in the EP, as part of the Laptops for Ukraine campaign that aims to collect and deliver ICT devices to respond to the fundamental needs of schools, hospitals, and public administrations in Ukraine's most affected war regions.

Today, I hosted the “Technology and Ukraine: Lessons from the Front Line” conference organized by @DIGITALEUROPE, where we discussed the role that tech has in social resilience, Ukraine’s story of public-private cooperation, and the country’s journey towards EU accession.

Happy to answer questions from Portuguese journalists on the AI Act, to discuss how this technology is changing the field of journalism, and to elaborate on how to best counter the effects of fake news and disinformation in this crucial election year.

Happy to speak to the Columbia University Club of Belgium about the AI Act, what it takes to enact such a complex political compromise, and what steps need to be taken in order to ensure the proper implementation of the regulation.

The AI Act has been fully adopted! Now on to the important part - implementation.

The AI Act has pushed the development of AI in a direction where humans are in control of the technology, and where the technology will help us leverage new discoveries for economic growth, societal progress, and to unlock human potential.

We have not yet witnessed the full power of AI. Existing capabilities have already surpassed anything we could have imagined and this will continue, exponentially. AGI is something that we need to prepare for.

First, through implementation: making digital rules work and turning Europe into the digital powerhouse of the future. Second, by working with our like-minded partners. Third, by putting our diplomatic and political clout in promoting the EU model of AI governance worldwide.

The AI Act is not the end of the journey, but, rather, the starting point for a new model of governance built around technology. We must now focus our political energy in turning it from the law in the books to the reality on the ground.

Much work lies ahead that goes beyond the AI Act itself. AI will push us to rethink the social contract resting at the heart of our democracies, along with our education models, our labour markets, and the way that we conduct warfare.

The EU delivered. We have forever attached to the concept of Artificial Intelligence the fundamental values that form the basis of our societies. With that alone, the #AIAct has nudged the future of AI in a human-centric direction.

International Women’s Day has passed, but until men and women are truly treated equally around the world, we’ll remain in the shadow of our past and will need special holidays just to remind us how much work we still have to do on gender equality.

Today, we received the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup winners in the plenary. I will admit that I cheered when Spain won the trophy, what an achievement! These women are role models. We need more like them to step up in sports and throughout society to lead the fight for equality.
