The price of a timely decision is always much lower than the price of indecision. And we seem to be the master of that. We wait until something drastic happens and we are forced to take a knee-jerk one. And seldom has the price of a knee-jerk reaction been low.

Perhaps we should learn from them. Continuous orders, continuous production is like grease. Yes, it takes money, but it keeps everything running smoothly. What could have been the maximum price we paid. 100 Mk1s instead of 100 Mk1As? They could have been upgraded at MLU.

This blip will be behind us. And no it is not created by the current US-administration. It has been known since 2021-onwards. The Koreans who had the orders and whose supply chain did not fritter away continued to deliver aircrafts with F404s just slightly behind schedule.

The F404INs are starting to come in and it will take a few more months to stabilize. Tejas production rates are pretty good and it should be able to hit 24-30 per year soon. The hope is that the all certifications finish in the next few weeks/months and supplies start.

F404 is a drop in the ocean. It is one of the smallest/cheapest engines to be be produced. We ordered 99 F404s in 2021 In contrast, GE produces 120 LEAP engines per month and those engines cost around ~3x more. Even the LEAP production is waiting for supply chain to restabilize

The order for F404IN happened in the peak of COVID. Suppliers had to reinstated, and supply chain has to be revived. This took time. And this is not something specific to F404. The entire aerospace industry is still emerging from it.

Many of you have the same question "where are the actual engines". Please understand that NOBODY except DPSUs can keep their lines open indefinitely for orders. There were no orders for F404IN. GE shut the line down. COVID happened, suppliers vanished for dead lines!

That's such a clean ad. Wow. Simple and to the point.

Lastly, I would like to say, we Indians are very lucky. Javed Akhtar summarizes it best: The peak of a mountain can only be high when the base is large. Our literary base spans 1000s of years, from Valmiki to Kabir. The peaks are bound to be high!

But in the last few years, my love has grown deeper, much deeper than the level of thoughts. Everything I want to say has been said better by somebody else, in far fewer words. One day, I want to learn this economy of words. Where I can paint a picture with the fewest words.

In the past few years, I have fallen deeply in love with poetry, & it has helped me a lot. In high school, I used to write poetry. They were not good. But it was useful for many friends who used those rhyming lines to 'propose' to their girlfriends. That was not poetry.

Read good poetry. At the very least it will keep you in touch with beauty. Jo yatharth hai, woh to jhoot hai, Jo kalpana hai, woh hi sach hai! ~Vinod Kumar Shukl That which happens as it should, is the lie, Imagination, now, that is the truth https://t.co/NUF0vgxu9Q

Our current defense minister can't understand how development is lagging behind in the defense sector. The irony is that he is the ultimate boss!

This is not just an iconic aircraft. It is also test aircraft. It has been used to test all kinds of upgrades. Updated radio, cockpit elements. Avro update: one sad story.
The first transport aircraft built in India is called Subroto, after IAF's first Indian chief. Flying it has always been 🩵

Why is Air Force Day celebrated on 8th October? Why not 1 April, 20 July, 15 August, 7 September, as some of these dates are often used (& confused?) with the birth of the Indian Air Force. Read more on how these dates are relevant to the @IAF_MCC. #IAFHistory (1/11)
