When studios scale up or speed up production, outsourcing becomes a game-changer. Here are the most commonly outsourced assets in game development (swipe to see them!) This strategy allows teams to focus on core development while keeping quality high and deadlines tight.

After all, building a concept directly in 3D, especially when done by a professional, saves time, cuts costs, and results in visuals that are as close to reality as possible.”

And by doing all that, I can be sure everything I create actually works and makes sense, which is important not only for me, but for most of the people I’ve worked with throughout my career.

The whole process is relatively quick for me, even though it might require way more work for someone with less experience. Thus, we’re going back to how important it is to have a trained eye and years of knowledge in the field.

When it comes to the rest of the work, I like to use 3ds Max for bigger concepts like cars or ships. For smaller pieces, I prefer using Fusion because it’s perfect for creating detailed parts.

I like to go into full detail, making sure that even the seats inside, let’s say, a spaceship, make sense. Once, I made ships for aliens, and I had to align the seats (as well as the entire interior) according to their size.

And it’s always great if you have a chance to go to a museum and see things with your own eyes, look at them from every angle, and take as many pictures as possible! Then I start by creating a graybox. Basically, it’s my 3D draft.

Then I collect all the references I can find. Usually, I use the Internet, but I don’t just look for something similar to copy from. I like to go as deep as possible, trying to get real machine schematics that I can use as references.

My ability to understand how every detail works, and my understanding of the physics behind it, is knowledge I’ve been gaining and refining for over 25 years now. Take, for example, how my work usually goes. First, there is, of course, an idea of a 3D concept.

And they would definitely run if you tried to build it in real life! “A visually trained eye for detail is everything when it comes to work like mine. My interest in mechanical stuff started in my very childhood: the first thing I ever tried to draw in my life was a car.

“When I create my 3D concepts, I make sure they would work in real life” We’re happy to share the story of our talented 3D Concept Artist, Roman. He’s the one behind every mechanical model that looks as realistic as the real thing.
