Indigenous identity theft is fraud. Settlers try to hide behind authentic Indigenous people who are reconnecting and often steal their stories or trauma and disconnection. It’s an insidious twist of colonial theft.

Kevin Klein’s party says they don’t police questions over his claims to being Indigenous. This trust appears to only extend to settlers in places of privilege because authentic Indigenous people have to show proof every day in Manitoba.

Claiming to be a Métis healer in a hospital among our most vulnerable - and when he is asked to demonstrate accountability he hides from it. We need to be vigilant and call out this harmful colonial conduct when we see it.
