Funny. As much as the point is fair; a hike is useless when even extant salaries are similar not paid for months? Long story time. In 2017 (or so), I made the dumb decision (first in a series of many) to activate my #CSIRNET with a view to soon register for a PhD. 1/n
1/2 Our stressed-out PhD scholars deserve a long-overdue increase in their stipends. The revision was due in 2022 after an already delayed raise in 2019. How can they meet their daily needs & undertake research amid rising inflation? @IndiaDST

Without being taught these topics, how is a student expected to choose their specialisation in class XI?

Secondly, the periodic table is the concept through which the regularity and the patterns that form the scientific essence of Chemistry are introduced. Similarly, evolution as a theory is of fundamental importance in Biology.

No citizen of this country, whatever their profession, should be denied knowledge of the central ideas of modern science. Developing scientific temper is one of the fundamental duties in the constitution and it is not possible without knowledge of evolution or the periodic table

Firstly, class XI is when a student has to choose their specialisation. So these deletions amount to deciding that these topics are not of general importance. This is something we must all vehemently protest. Evolution and the periodic table are the bedrocks of modern science.

The government has decided to drop evolution and the periodic table among other topics from class X syllabus. Now its supporters and even several well meaning people may argue that these are topics that are covered later in Class XI and XII and why is that a bad thing?

Modi’s BJP is a tragic affront to India’s secular beginnings. Hinduism is at least as ridiculous as Islam. Between them, these two idiotic religions have betrayed the ideals of Nehru and Gandhi. https://t.co/1wIHXKeyGS

Today morning, members of IMSc came together to stand in silent protest to demand justice for Subhadip Roy, a PhD scholar from IISER Kolkata who was found dead, apparently by suicide, on Apr 3rd.

Himanshu writes about what a disaster the VP's visit to IMSc was for many people on the 4th cross street. https://t.co/SgTv72TwdQ

We will try to find out the circumstances of the individual stalls and raise funds for them if they accept. Hopefully they will recover from this tragedy of a "VVIP visit".

These are valuable members of the society providing essential services. They are subject to repeated hardships. Their shops were destroyed last year, then they lost all business due to covid, and now they were slowly getting back to their feet, and they lost everything yet again.

The street itself doesn't see much traffic, and these stalls are not at all in the way. They make up bogus complaints like those in the article when everyone knows they were destroyed because the VP shouldn't be subjected to the sight of them.

The stalls in the street see lot of footfall from the students and others who depend on them for their daily chai and snacks. The police accept bribes and let them function, but raze them to the ground when it suits them.
