I'm delighted to say that my first book, The Indian Caliphate, is published today. It uncovers how the exiled last Ottoman Caliph, a painter and musician, launched a plan to revive the Caliphate in India - with the help of a billionaire prince, the world's richest man:

This Guardian story doesn't mention our @MiddleEastEye exclusive published back in June on the phone call between Lord Cameron and the ICC prosecutor last year. Our story was entirely ignored by mainstream media. Many politicians, including Humza Yousaf, have urged an inquiry

"Mulla’s story is especially compelling as it foreshadows many of today’s political conflicts... His interviews with surviving members are memorable and delightfully intimate." Very grateful to @davidchaffetz for engaging so thoughtfully and in so much detail with the book!

Was this one of history's great what ifs? One can imagine a very different India, a very different Middle East, a different Islam.

Fascinating example of how rumours that Hyderabad would become the seat of the Caliphate emerged in the 1940s
Nizam of Hyderabad as next Caliph of Muslim World after abolition of Ottoman Caliphate. The following newspaper excerpt I was told is from "The Bombay Chronicle". @Imran_posts

This praise means a lot coming from Princess Ayşe, a great historian of her family's history. I highly recommend her book 'A Farewell to Imperial Istanbul'. The memoirs of Princess Ayşe's grandfather, Prince Ali Vâsib, were an invaluable source as I was writing my own book
I can not recommend this book more highly. Thank you @Imran_posts for the privilege of reading it pre publication. I learnt so much and applaud you for highlighting this fascinating page in the history of the Caliphate.

"Upends conventional understandings of the 20th-century Muslim world... Mulla's evocation of Hyderabad in this period is intoxicating... This is a book long overdue, a revelation." Review by @SamDalrymple123 of my new book, The Indian Caliphate, out this week
I'm delighted to announce that my first book will be published this winter by @HurstPublishers. It's called 'The Indian Caliphate: Exiled Ottomans and the Billionaire Prince':
