The Federal MPs have approved the African Charter on the Rights & Welfare of the Child — a landmark treaty adopted 35 years ago to safeguard children’s rights to health, education & protection. We now call on the Upper House & the President to act swiftly so it becomes law.

UNFPA team from the regional office, together with @UNFPA_SOMALIA, joined our Young Girls’ Storytelling Event to Raise Awareness on FGM & Promote Positive Social Norms. During the visit, the team engaged with participants, including survivors, TBAs & religious leaders.

Today in #Mogadishu,we held a public rally demanding that the federal MPs pass the FGM bill. The rally was attended by youth, women's groups & federal MPs. We called on the @MFamily_HRD to table the bill & urged MPs to pass it into LAW. Thanks to @UNFPA_SOMALIA & @novonordiskfond

With support from @UNFPA_SOMALIA & @novonordiskfond, football tournaments were concluded in #Dhusamareb,#Baidoa,#Kismayo,& #Deynile.These events raised awareness on ending FGM, promoted positive social norms, & highlighted the key role of youth in driving the movement to #EndFGM.

Football players have joined the fight against FGM. With the support of @UNFPA_SOMALIA, we launched football tournaments aimed at raising awareness about the ending of FGM and promoting positive social norms within the communities of #Dhusamareeb, #Baidoa, & #Deynile districts.

With support from @UNFPASomalia, we held a 1-day workshop in #Galmudug for Traditional Birth Attendants( TBAs) & health professionals, focusing on the impact of FGM, the law’s provisions including the ban on medicalization & strengthening support for implementation of the #FGMACT

In partnership with @UNFPA_SOMALIA, we conducted a 2-day workshop for police, judges, attorneys general, & lawyers in #Galmudug on the provisions of the FGM law & its effective implementation. A total of 50 participants attended. Together, we’re working to end FGM.@GPtoEndFGM

With support from @UNFPA_SOMALIA, we conducted a consultative meeting in #Galmudug with policymakers, parliamentarians, religious leaders & CSOs to discuss their roles in promoting the enacted FGM Act, understanding its provisions, & ensuring effective implementation.@GPtoEndFGM
