š Livestock dominates global land, yet yields little food š Regenerative grazing can't scale without a major cut to beef & dairy ā ļøRegenerative grazing: short-lived soil gains, long-lived CH4 š±Plant-based + rewilding deliver the biggest eco dividend:

The real question is: what could this land do instead? In most regions, it could support forests, native grasslands, wetlands, or plant foods that feed more people with far less impact.

Regenerative grazing largely lacks a unified definition, but put favorably, it's a method of moving cattle to let soil recover, boost biodiversity, & store some carbon. Giants like JBS & McDonaldās are pouring billions into it using āregenerationā to rebrand beef as eco-friendly

Out now, our launch report! At COP30 next week dozens of panels will discuss regenerative grazing. We've compiled the best science on the topic and compared grazing vs. plant-based with rewilding.

Big news! Plant Based Data is now the Institute for Future Food Systems at https://t.co/HDZsROYjQy Same roots, stronger mission. We're now going further - using science not just to inform - but to drive action, amplify solutions, & counter disinformation slowing real progress.

THX to Dr. Greger for putting his book online for free. I have read and checked most of the references one by one. His book is extremely important. Greger predicted the current pandemic in animals, and the massive risk of human pandemics. https://t.co/LDzgMUXMRa

š¢ Over 100 organisations and leading experts from around the world are ramping up their calls on the UN @FAO to urgently retract a key report, after the FAO doubled down on serious methodological errors that downplay the emissions reduction potential of lower-meat and dairy

Some of the examples covered in my disinfo report explain why change is slow: https://t.co/e7BGDBKyEs And this recent report too that I contributed to explains the corporate gymnastics underway to escape meaningful change: https://t.co/EBsAHNYWKl

3. Collaborate more with physicians educating students and healthcare professionals on the health and ecological impacts of animal products - e.g., Drs. Shireen & Zahra Kassam, Dr. Saray Stancic, Dr. Rikin Patel, our Dr. Tushar Mehta and the many working with @PCRM.

How can the AMA and other medical associations succeed in limiting the influence of the animal agriculture industry and animal products in the healthcare sector? 1. Engage more medical school committees and deans to increase nutritional training.

Diets high in red and processed meat (RPM) contribute substantially to environmental degradation, greenhouse gas emissions & the global burden of chronic disease. High-profile reports have consistently called for significant global RPM reduction, especially in high-income areas.

Medical students have been calling for more nutrition training for decades. Medical school education isnāt outdated - itās on par when it comes to the newest medications, technologies, and treatments - but the culture continues to under-prioritize it.

Many schools dedicate less than the recommended 25 hours to the subject over five or six years, which few even meet. One study found just 25% of medical schools even meet this recommendation (made by the Academy of National Sciences in 1985).

Meanwhile, earlier AMA policies have made a critical point: healthcare professionals need more education on the benefits and risks of diet, especially physicians. Unfortunately, nutrition education is still not mandatory in most medical schools.

While there is more public awareness around and the harmful impacts of processed meats and the impacts of animal agriculture, the industry still continues to spread disinformation to sow doubt & greenwash well-established science (see @NicholasDCarter's āDisinformation Reportā).

The AMA has also called for public awareness campaigns & for educational programs for healthcare professionals. There's a clear link between high intake of red and processed meats & higher risks for heart disease, cancer, T2D & premature death. doi: 10.1080/10408398.2021.1949575
